Translating Ayurvedic concepts to modern drug structures: A novel paradigm published in Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine
Is the secret to truly personalized medicine hidden in a patient’s constitutional balance (Prakriti)? This article introduces the Collaborative Medicine and Science (Co.M.S.) framework, offering a novel, holistic lens to understand pharmaceutical actions. It applies fundamental Ayurvedic concepts (Panchamahabhuta, Tridosha, and Guna) to interpret a drug’s molecular structure and systemic effects. The framework explains inter-individual variability by revealing that a drug’s effects (Karma) emerge from the interaction between its inherent qualities and the individual’s unique constitution (Prakriti/Vikriti). This approach offers practical insights to optimize prescription practices for drugs like antibiotics and antihypertensives, enhancing personalized medicine outcomes.
