Healing with integrative management of Diabetic foot ulcer – A case report published in Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine
Can an integrative approach prevent amputation in severe Diabetic Foot Ulcers? This case study documents a 50-year-old patient advised for amputation due to a chronic, non-healing DFU of two months. An integrated treatment protocol utilizing classical Ayurvedic wound care—including Leech Therapy (Jalaukavacharana), medicated cleansing, and polyherbal internal medicines—was implemented. The comprehensive approach resulted in complete healing of the 48 cm² ulcer within three months, eliminating the need for amputation and significantly improving the patient’s quality of life. The remarkable outcome highlights the potential of Ayurvedic Vrana upkrama to effectively complement conventional diabetic foot management.
